Rene Eisenbart “Texture and Patterning – with Marbling and Collage Techniques” July 27-29, 2017

You will make beautiful marbled patterns, then incorporate them into your artwork as visual texture, using collage or direct painting tapping into your own personal imagery.  Experiment with acrylic mediums to create 3-dimensional texture with subjects of your choosing – possibly and expressive portrait, botanical or creature.  Plan to work on several paintings during the workshop.  Leave with one or two ready-to-frame paintings, several starts and paper you’ve marbled for future work.

About Rene:

Rene Eisenbart’s art-making, which started in childhood, has developed into a multi-faceted career including 25 years as artist for The Oregonian where she created weekly botanical illustrations.  Hundreds of her paintings have been published in the Homes & Garden and the book, “Plant This” by NPR correspondent Ketzel Levine.  Rene’s art – often infused with the human form or quintessential plants and creatures of the Northwest – is rich with symbolic meaning.  It is a dance between her intention and the flow of paint.

Tony Allain “Chasing the Light” Pastel workshop July 18-20, 2017

Tony will share some of his working methods in this workshop, concentrating on painting land and seascapes that are filled with color and light.  We will explore the use of direct strokes on a textured surface to emphasize “brushwork”. We will learn how to simplify our approach to achieve exciting impressionistic paintings.  This workshop is for those willing to go through the door marked ‘leaving the comfort zone’ and enter a world of exciting and expressive pastel application.

About Tony:

I’m not interested in pure representation; my work is about responses to the moods and atmospheres generated by landscape, still life or interior.  I take an everyday scene and through a subtle approach and through focusing on light, color and tone, I try to give the motif an elevated atmosphere.  My subjects are often oriented around the mood of the sea, skies, harbors, ships and figures; I am constantly absorbing everything that is around me.  I am interested in new ideas and art forms.  My philosophy is the more I work the more I discover.  Drawing is essential as a tool of discovery; skill and mastery of technique are also essential, but only as a vocabulary and a means toward an idea.

Sarkis Antikajian “Still Life and Landscape Painting in Oils and Acrylics July 7-9, 2017

In this workshop we will paint the still life from still life setups and landscapes from our photos.  Although each day’s demonstration is done in oils, participants can paint in either oils or acrylics.  I will show how to produce vibrant and exciting colors.  The demo will consist of painting the picture from start to finish with ample explanation of the procedure and the thoughts and decisions that one makes through the process. The rest of the day participants will paint while the instructor provides one-on-one attention.
